oprah.jpgMedia mogul Oprah Winfrey still reigns in media, but her empire is losing some of its steam.

The audience for her popular talk show has dropped by seven percent this year, leading to the third straight row of a decrease in ratings. “Oprah’s Big Give,” her reality program centered in philanthropy slipped in ratings throughout the season for the series. O magazine has also lost circulation by ten percent over a three-year period.
Criticisms of Oprah’s endorsements such as Barack Obama’s presidency are noted as a possible factor for her falling numbers. Many of her white female audience members who are Republican or voting for Clinton feel isolated in Oprah’s enthusiasm for Obama. Do you think that Oprah should mention her political stance on issues, even if it may sacrifice some fans? Share your thoughts below!

Immigrants are known for surpassing the American born citizenry in education and achievement, and Nigerians are a large contributor to that statistic. According to the Census Bureau’s 2006 American Community Survey, Nigerians earn the highest amount of advanced degrees ranging from bachelors to doctorates. 37 percent hold bachelors, 17 percent have master’s degrees, and 4 percent have doctorates. They even are impressionable in comparison to Asians who fall one or two percentage points behind with 12 percent having master’s degrees and 3 percent having doctorates. Ivy League Universities are also reporting high percentage points with Nigerians as the dominant immigrant group being admitted to the school, with Jamaicans closely behind. Experts are assuming that these numbers are attributed to the strong emphasis on education in Nigerian culture, combined with a desire to excel in the United States workforce.
